This is a good all in one unit for those of us who want to get the most out of stereo systems. Whilst the Kenwood DNX6160 may not be for everyone, it’s certainly one foro most of us.

So what does it offer? Let’s take a quick look at the system specs.

There’s a good looking 6.1 inch touchscreen to look at, and can be customized for your specific wants. The navigation system it uses is from Garmin, which is one of the leading companies when it comes to GPS navigation. If you’re coming from a different system there’s a small learning curve, and it may not look the same as your old GPS, but it offers a very user friendly system that shouldn’t take too long to get used to. As an added plus, it’s also Navteq Traffic ready. What this means is that it collects traffic conditions in real time from 98 traffic information sources across North America and delivers them to your car stereo, so you know the best way of avoiding traffic problems on the way to your destination. If you’re outside North America, this won’t help you though, as at present they don’t provide data for other parts of the world.

This unit also offers bluetooth connectivity, including Parrot Bluetooth so that you can make hands-free calls on your phone.

Of course there’s also the standard DVD player, digital player and radio, and radio tuner. Pretty much everything you would expect from a stereo of this type.

The real test is not the specs, but how well the system works. As far as the GPS goes, Garmin has always been a great system and doesn’t let us down here. It connects quickly and smoothly, gives precise information and works exactly how GPS should work. There have been some complaints about the removal of the upcoming cross street function, but to be honest that’s one thing I don’t miss. For me it tended to be confusing and lacked the accuracy of the other components of the system. But then, if it’s something you liked, you’re going to miss it on all Garmin products.

The sound is great, even with standard speaker set-ups it sounds good. If you’re serious about your music listening, you may want to match this stereo with good quality speakers, and don’t forget the subwoofer. But they’re not necessary for most everyday listening.

Overall this is a great stereo/gps system and one I would highly recommend.
