One of the great things about the modern double din car stereo is it’s ability to connect to your iPod/iPhone. The question then is where to download music for iPod from? A lot of people still think the only option is to buy songs for ipod from itunes. However this is not true anymore.

Of the options available to buy songs for iPod, my favorite is probably Amazon. It’s a nice and simple process, and perhaps more importantly tends to be cheaper than itunes. The only real problem is when itunes has songs available that amazon doesn’t.

The process of buying is simple and straight forward. You can either download the music directly through your browser, or by using amazon’s mp3 downloader. I would advise using the downloader though as the browser can only download one song at a time, and if you click open instead of save you won’t have a copy on your computer.

The added benefit of the downloader, apart from downloading more than one mp3 at a time, is that once it’s set up it’s a seamless process of buying and downloading the music you want. By default it will save all files in the “Amazon MP3” folder located in either the “Music” folder on a Mac, or the “My Music” folder in Windows.

Once downloaded the songs will be automatically imported into either Windows Media Player or iTunes. If your default player is Windows Media Player, you can change it so that it imports into iTunes automatically by opening the Amazon mp3 Downloader and selecting”File/Preferences”, and choose “Add it to iTunes” under the “Media Library” section. Note that you will only have the options if the player is installed, so you need to have iTunes installed if you want to set it as the default player to import your music to.

If the above doesn’t import into iTunes, then check if you have the latest version of iTunes and this should fix the problem. You can also add the amazon mp3 folder in itunes by selecting “Add Folder to Library” and selecting the download folder.

To get your music onto your ipod or iphone, it’s simply a matter of dragging the tracks in itunes to your device’s “Library” and the next time you sync your device it will be on your device ready to play and enjoy.
