Okay, so we have here another double din car stereo, in the form of the Kenwood Excelon DNX6960 DVD receiver. Let’s start by looking at the key product features:

AM/FM radio, DVD, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, CD, CD-R/RW, VCD, MP3/WMA/AAC, MPEG1, JPEG, iPod, USB, Bluetooth receiver with built-in Garmin navigation
4 x 50 Watts maximum power with three 5V preamp outputs (front/rear/sub) and crossover system
6.1-inch TFT LCD touchscreen display with WVGA 800 x 480 pixel resolution
Includes built-in Garmin navigation, Bluetooth,iPod connection, USB music streaming, front panel A/V input, output; add Kenwood adapters

Well, that was nice, now let’s have a closer look at what that means. Starting with the gps navigation system, it has all of the standards that I like. There’s the 3D building map, lane assist with junction view, which lets you know which lane you need to be in as you come up on intersections. If you’ve used gps before you should have no difficulty in finding your way around this part. It also comes with over 6 million ponts of interest, and no I didn’t check them all, we’ll just have to take their word for that one. For long trips you can program up to 500 waypoints, although I can’t see needing anywhere near that many, but I guess it’s good to know it’s there if the need does arrive. It supports tex-to-speech voice guidance in 3 languages, English, French and Spanish. If you ask my parents they’ll tell you I don’t speak any of those languages, but I did manage to understand the English, mostly.

And what about the other things this unit does? You know, like play music and such. Well, the sound as you may expect is great. The controls are easy to use and give plenty of options to get the best sound for the type of music you like. You have USB with direct control, as well as iPhone, iPod and video playback control which is becoming essential in these units. It also has built-in bluetooth so you can take calls hands free. There’s also a nifty split screen option that allows you to display two different screens at once.

Overall, I’d say this is a nice piece of equipment and with the added benefit of (at the time of writing this post) a 43% discount, you can’t go wrong with this one.
